Brent and I decided one day that we need a bigger car. No this is not an annoucement. So for kicks and giggles we put my car on ksl.com just to see what we could get out of it. A few days later there was a man on our doorstep offering almost what we were asking. So we sold my car. Now we definately need a new car. We can't make up our minds, well, mostly me. We've driven a million cars. My problem is that I like all of them. We can't decide between a minivan and an SUV. I really like the manuverabilty and the good gas mileage of the minivan. But the SUV's we've driven have been more comfortable and are better for towing and have 4 wheel drive. Oh and the minivans are less expensive, which highly appeals to the cheap side of me. I think what it comes down to is I have a hard time picturing myself at the stage in life where I'm driving a minivan. It probably sounds vain but it's true. So any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Me, I would choose the mini-van for all the reasons you listed. Less expensive, better gas mileage. I would also consider looking at the safety ratings for both vehicles. What type of van is that? The one we bought is a Honda Odyssey. We really like it. They have great safety ratings.
Another reason we wouldn't want the SUV is that we don't need four-wheel drive, so that wouldn't be a feature we'd look for, but maybe you guys need one (to haul all your stuff back to TEXAS!). Oh and the gas mileage is a big issue, especially in TX where we have to drive lots of long distances. But where you live the little tiny Cache Valley, it probably wouldn't be too big a deal.
Anyway, that's my opinion, but each family is different and has different needs/wants. So, good luck deciding!
Jeremy and I are in the same boat right now (well we still have our car) We decided on a van even though neither of us want to picture ourselves as "minivan people". But when it came down to it it just made more sense. We are going to buy the Hyundai Entourage... Jeremy has been doing major research. Good luck, it's such a hard decision.
I haven't done any 'research' but John and I kind of liked that brand spankin new Chrylser Town and Country because it looks less minivan-ish, and the seats turn and fun stuff like that. Have no idea how safe it is, or how reliable. Purely superficial am I.
I never thought I would ever consider a minivan either but... The people that invented those things are genious!!! Now that we have a kid and about 12 more on the way, I would almost "think" about buying a minivan.. But there are alot of stylish SUV's out there that get good gas mileage, and living in Utah I would say 4 wheel drive is a must! I mean hello were you here this last Winter?
I'm not sure I could be your friend anymore if you drove a minivan! Just Kidding...but at least you would get out of driving if we all go somewhere together. None of us would want to ride in the minivan!
It's gotta be the mini! I don't know why, I just like mini vans.
I'd probably go minivan. Gas prices are only going to rise. We do love our toyota rav 4 (crossover, looks good, good gas mileage, bigger than a sedan, good for towing), but I think it would be a little crowded once you hit 3 car seats.
Once you seriously start looking you'll find that full sized suvs run about $30K and higher...hits the pocket book big time.
I hate hate hate SUVs! I think the less there are on the road the better! They are too big, they take up too much room and use too much gas. What about a crossover though...?
Did you know that I spell my last name NELL? Just wondering!!!
We just bought a Honda Pilot. We love it and the gas mileage is pretty close to minivans. We mostly bought it for the 4-wheel drive. Before this winter I was all about the van, but when the snow flew I was quickly converted. We drove Suburbabns, Yukons, Acadias, and some vans. We just really liked the Pilot. Good luck with your decision! It's fun shopping for cars.

Man I want a new car sooo bad! Covey and Noah are just way too close in the Saturn- which Covey enjoys but you can imagine how Noah does NOT like it. :) Anywho, John and I really favor the crossovers- minivan/SUV. The Chrystler Pacifica is a nice one, our neighbors just got one. My dream car is the GMC Acadia, ah what a beautiful car- but also very expensive (hence the term dream car). But ya, we can't seem to rid ourselves of the 30-33 miles per gallon that my Saturn gets. Gas prices these days suck! And of course we've got to save up for the next one anyway! We're a long way off...but I hope you can get a car that you love!!!
Hahahahaha you're so old!
A minivan? I agree with you on many of the pros of a minivan. I had to drive one a few weeks ago and swore I would never own one. Anything has got to be better than a minivan!!
I just had to tell you what a nerd you are for buying the mini van. you are a total old lady mom now. Just kidding but not really
Hey Susan..:)~
